New facelift for Nicosias Laiki Yitonia

first_imgThe tourist quarter of the capital, Laiki Yitonia is to be revamped, Nicosia municipality announced on Tuesday.The area, off Ledra and Onasgorou streets, which was revitalised in the 1990s and was filled with restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops, has deteriorated over the past 10 to 15 years and sees far fewer visitors.The municipality said it had presented a report on May 9 to the deputy ministry for tourism with a plan to revitalise the area.The study was conducted by the Ioachim and Loizou architects and engineers and provides for plans to be implemented in 2019-2020 by the municipality.The project cost is estimated at around €500,000. “The completion of the action plan will contribute greatly to the revival of the neighbourhood, and promote the traditional culture of the city,” the municipality.Work is expected to begin in the last quarter of 2019, and is expected to last around six to eight months, it added.
