first_imgJob Description:TITLE: Project ManagerDEPARTMENT: Information Technology ServicesBASIC FUNCTION: Fairfield University needs a talentedproject manager to join the Enterprise Computing team within ITS.This person will be part project manager, part departmentambassador, part software tester, and part expert researcher. Sometimes thismeans designing and testing a new custom application, sometimes itmeans researching available off the shelf solutions, and sometimesit means extending the functionality of our student informationsystem (Banner) or our ERP (Workday). It always means providing anexceptional level of customer service, tracking and reportingstatus accurately, and working effectively in teams and on yourown. You should be a self-starter, willing to anticipate the nextthing that needs to be done and doing it without having to be told.You are never satisfied with the status quo, believing there’salways room for improvement and you should be naturally curious andeager to learn new skills. It is essential that you can take apartially conceived idea with poorly defined requirements and turnit into a finished product that gets delivered on time and onbudget.KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, & EXPERIENCE NEEDED: The rightcandidate for this job has a bachelor’s degree and previousexperience juggling multiple projects with competing timelines andpriorities. He or she has a working knowledge of the softwaredevelopment lifecycle and agile methodologies, though coding skillsare not necessary. A minimum of 5 years of prior IT experience isrequired and a graduate degree in IT, Computer Science, or arelated field is preferred. The ideal candidate is comfortablecommunicating up and down the chain of command and is skilled attranslating technical jargon for non-technical stakeholders. Thisperson should be a system-oriented thinker capable of seeing howvarious pieces of a project affect other department priorities. Theability to report the status of each project and the overallportfolio with a strong attention to detail is key.EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree requiredREPORTS TO: Director, Enterprise ComputingESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Manage multiple projects within ITS while continually assessingproject priority, resource availability, budgets, and risks. Useagile methodology to gather requirements, design a solution,document development sprints, plan testing, and commit to go-liveevents; involve all relevant stakeholders and ensure technicalfeasibility and resource availability to meet objectives Ensurethat all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and withinbudget; ensure that project status is tracked and reportedappropriately Manage project risks and escalate those risks tomanagement in a timely manner.
