IPL 2019: Clash of the Titans as Mumbai Indians host Chennai Super Kings

first_imgIt’s the second Wednesday of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 and a potential blockbuster is on the cards. Two of the most successful teams in IPL — Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are meeting at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.CSK and MI are at the opposite ends of IPL 2019 points table as the two teams are gearing up to play their fourth matches. MS Dhoni’s men have headed to Mumbai on the back of three successive wins while Mumbai have lost two in three. After an eight-wicket thrashing against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali, MI are hoping to return to winning ways after a three-day break. The clash between the three-time champions usually creates a lot of buzz and Wednesday’s clash is no different. Chennai Super Kings off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who is gearing up to face his former club, has likened the duel between the two teams to India-Pakistan clashes. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has said he could get the feel of an El Clasico when his team faces off against Dhoni’s men.The Tiki-Taka before the El Clasico! #WhistlePodu #Yellove #MIvCSK @DJBravo47 @tommysimsek pic.twitter.com/GAjKKMqXZwChennai Super Kings (@ChennaiIPL) April 3, 2019Ahead of the Match 15 of IPL 2019, here’s a look at some of the interesting numbers involving CSK and MI.First things first, Chennai Super Kings have a head-to-head record of 13-11 against Mumbai Indians — their worst in IPL. Recent history also doesn’t favour CSK as they have lost four of their last five meetings to MI.advertisementHowever, CSK can take confidence from the thrilling win that got their IPL 2018 season going. Returning from a two-year suspension, Chennai clinched a one-wicket win in the last-ball thriller at the Wankhede Stadium.Mumbai Indians though will keen on getting two points on the board as a win would make them the first team in IPL to win 100 matches (including a Super Over win). CSK are second on the list of most wins by an IPL team with 93 wins.Meanwhile, an array of individual records are also up for grabs in Wednesday’s encounter.Dwayne Bravo, who will also be facing his former club, needs one more wicket to become the first bowler to collect 100 wickets for Chennai Super Kings. On the other hand, Suresh Raina needs only one catch to become the first player in IPL history to take 100 catches. Raina’s CSK teammate Harbhajan Singh is bidding to become the third bowler after Lasith Malinga (Wankhede) and Amit Mishra (Feroz Shah Kotla) to pick up 50 wickets at a venue. Also Read | Virat Kohli as captain of India and RCB: 7 successive losses since March 8Also Read | IPL 2019: Ajinkya Rahane relieved to get points on board after RR beat RCB for first winAlso See:last_img read more

MS Dhoni gloves row: ICC should apologise to Dhoni and all of India, says Sreesanth

first_imgS Sreesanth wants the International Cricket Council (ICC) to apologize to MS Dhoni and all of India after the world governing body objected to the Army crest on Dhoni’s wicketkeeping gloves. On Wednesday during India’s opening World Cup 2019 match against South Africa, MS Dhoni had sported an army badge on his gloves. The ICC then asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to remove the insignia from the gloves. The ICC statement sparked off a controversy with a Pakistan minister taking a dig at Dhoni. Within hours, Indian fans were outraged over the ICC’s stance.Meanwhile, BCCI asked the ICC to reconsider its decision and threw its weight behind MS Dhoni. India will play their next World Cup game against Australia at The Oval on June 9 and as things stand now, the ICC will not allow Dhoni to wear the gloves with the army crest on them. This is the Para Special Forces insignia. Sources say what is seen on Dhoni’s gloves only resembles it, can’t say it’s the the real one. The special forces insignia is always in moron background and has balidan written in Devanagiri script. Speaking to India Today, Sreesanth said: “ICC should be apologizing not just to MS Dhoni but the entire country. This is not the way to dictate terms with the country that is literally ruling Indian cricket.advertisement”With Dhoni being an honorary lieutenant colonel with the parachute regiment, we all know how patriotic that man is. He single-handedly wins matches for India.”Dhoni has not just won 1 but 2 World Cups. He represents India in every part of the world. I am sure that the people of the country will back MS Dhoni. I am very confident that ICC should withdraw the letter and apologize to the entire country.”We all are so proud of Dhoni. Can’t express how proud I am feeling after seeing Dhoni play with the gloves.”In fact, he should be wearing the same gloves and winning the World Cup,” Sreesanth said.Manoj Tiwary backs MS DhoniMeanwhile, India cricketer Manoj Tiwary said he did not see what the problem was with Dhoni’s gloves.”I don’t see any problem in it because there have been so many instances where different types of caps were worn. There was no issue at that time,” Tiwary told India Today. “When someone is showing their love and respect towards something, it should be not taken in a different way.”Also Read | World Cup 2019: Fans furious after ICC asks MS Dhoni to remove Army crest from glovesAlso Read | World Cup 2019: MS Dhoni wanted to honour the Army, says former coach on Balidaan badge rowAlso Seelast_img read more
