UPDATED: DONEGAL IN THE EYE OF HURRICANE KATIA STORM

first_img3.30PM LATEST: Donegal is being hit by storm force winds this afternoon with gusts of up to 137 km/hr recorded on Arranmore Island, but the winds are easing inland.Malin Head reported a gust of 66knots (122kmph) between 12-1pm.There are trees down in a number of areas including near Glenties, Drumkeen, Ardara, Ballyshannon and Ramelton as ex-Hurricane Katia hits the county. At one stage a huge trampoline was blocking the road from Dunfanaghy to Falcarragh – blown from a garden. And just moments after Met Eireann said the winds probably wouldn’t affect power supplies, the ESB reported 6,000 homes had lost power and telephone lines are now also down in many areas in the west of the county.ESB told donegaldaily.com that power has biw been restored to 5,800 homes, with just 200 homes in the county now without a supply – but ESB emergency crews say more cuts could happen throughout the afternoon. The Mulroy Bridge is closed and the AA is warning motorists to slow down following reports to this website from several drivers that some other road users are “driving as mad as usual.” Peter O’Donnell from irishweatheronline had just reported: “We are expecting winds to gradually decrease this evening although it will remain very gusty for the next few hours.”Out of electricity? It’s unreal. Little over a year ago I didn’t imagine I’d have written a book and it would be nominated for an award.“It’s fantastic. When I wrote it I was hoping that someone might get a little bit of help from it if they found themselves in similar situations,” she said. MAJELLA PICKS UP TOP AWARD FOR HER LIFE STORY was last modified: November 27th, 2014 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:awardbookMajella O’Donnelllast_img read more
