Community grants school supply wishlists for Tioga Hills teachers

APALACHIN (WBNG) — When a local mother heard about a project down south sponsoring teachers with wishlists of school supplies, she decided to bring that idea to life in the Southern Tier at Tioga Hills Elementary School. Dealing with a whirlwind of a school year, for her, knowing she’s getting so many items for free and during such a difficult economic time for so many, “I have goosebumps, it’s just a very comforting, it’s like a blanket’s been wrapped around you to say okay it’s going to be okay.”center_img There are still more items to be purchased, to join the Facebook group, click here. Taking to Facebook, a group was started and teachers were asked for their lists, which were then posted for people to buy from. And, it was all a surprise. In an attempt to put a spin on such a difficult and unusual upcoming year, she said, “We decided, I guess for lack of a better way of saying it, turn the frown upside down and show the teachers and the students that we’re behind them.”last_img
