Pillay is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow on a one week visit during which she will meet President Mahinda Rajapaksa as well as other government Ministers and officials and also undertake a tour to the north and east. (Colombo Gazette) The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay will receive input from relevant special procedures mandate holders for her oral report on Sri Lanka to be made public at the UN Human Rights Council in September.Pillay’s office said that the oral report will be made based on ‘resolution 22/1’ on Sri Lanka which was adopted by the Human Rights Council last March. Her office said that in resolution 22/1 on promoting reconciliation and accountability in Sri Lanka, the Human Rights Council requested the Office of the High Commissioner For Human Rights (OHCHR), with input from relevant special procedures mandate holders, as appropriate, to present an oral update to the Council on the implementation of that resolution. Accordingly that oral update will be made to the Council during its September session.
