first_imgThe Republic of North  Macedonia was welcomed into the North Atlantic Alliance during a ceremony held for the signing of the NATO treaty on 6 February.Representatives from 29 countries signed the document that allows the country to become a NATO member following the lifting of a veto by Greece.The document was signed by Nikolai Dimitrov, the Foreign Affairs Minister of the the Republic of North Macedonia, on behalf of the government of Skopje.NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg expressed the hope that the document would be ratified as soon as possible. “When all 29 countries of NATO sign the ratification, we will be able to congratulate the Republic of Macedonia on becoming the 30th member of NATO,” said Mr Stoltenberg.The recent ratification of the Prespes Agreement by Greek Parliament has paved the way for Skopje to join NATO and other organisations like it.
